Today, I registered the class for Scholastic's 2012 Summer Reading Challenge! I'm excited to announce that we'll be reading two awesome books together over the summer.
The first, is Naomi Leon's El Soñador.
The second book we'll be reading together is Russell Freedman's Immigrant Kids.
This book chronicles the lives of immigrant children of the 1800's and early 1900's using photographs and text. The images help make the scenes real and help engage readers.
This book will help introduce you to one of my favorite units. Next year, one of our units is about migration; we'll be learning about immigration and telling stories with pictures (like the ones in the book).
During the summer, check back with the blog we'll be blogging about these two books and other must reads all summer long!
I just logged on for the first time in 2 weeks.

ReplyDeleteI believe the dust bowl was caused by human carelessness and greed. My first reason is the over plowing moved the top soil away for a cuple of years, they made good profit then the dust came and devastated peoples lives. Another reason is that if the people ceapt the grass the soil would not have blown up. Finally during word war 1 they made good profit and forgot to plant different flowers and grasses insted of only wheat. That is why I believe the Dust Bowl was caused by human carelessness and greed.
